"The Message" (a "translation" of the Bible) is a straight-up abomination.
Please understand that I don't believe the Bible. But I do care about something pretending to be what it isn't.
I can't stomach "The Message."
It is a laughable grotesque inexcusable rewriting of the Bible. It's not even at the level of a paraphrase.
"The Message" is for the Christian who says, "Who cares about accuracy? I just want to feel good about what I read."
This is John 3:16-18 in "The Message" [try not to vomit]:
"This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn't go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person's failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him. [emphasis added]"
POINT AN ACCUSING FINGER? Whoever wrote John's gospel (back in 100 CE) is rolling in his grave.
And (a) "The Message" and (b) the 2011 version of the NIV are too gutless to use "he" as the generic pronoun (the way English-speaking people have been doing for centuries). All of a sudden, one person becomes "they."
Fuck you, you cowards. You're kowtowing to the Feminazis.
Here's Revelation 3:20 in the updated NIV:
"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me."
This is straight-up shit.
