The reason that atheists sometimes appear to be angry or irritated is that they see belief in a god as somewhat silly, and they find it ridiculous that adults with working brains believe something that is patently absurd.
An all-powerful all-loving Skydaddy ... who threatens to torture your children in hell for all eternity. And he's invisible, and he never talks to anybody.
Seriously? Seriously???
Imagine that in your town, there are 100,000 people who believe that the Disney character Goofy is the supreme being. They tell you: Goofy is invisible, and never talks to us, but we believe he exists ... by faith. "I believe in Goofy, even when he is silent."
They tell you that Goofy is all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-loving. They print up little tracts (Have You Heard the Good News?) that urge you to join their Goofy church.
The tract says:
"You can throw this tract away and try to laugh it off, but already you've read too much. You've heard the truth and you'll never be able to shake off what you've read. Conviction has gripped your soul, and you're beginning to feel different. You know you've been putting on a big front. You know the end is coming, and you know you're not ready to meet Goofy. You have to admit to yourself that down deep in your heart, you're wondering what's going to happen when the end comes."
They sing songs about his surpassing greatness. Goofy is so great and wise and intelligent that we can't understand his ways. Of course, you (a non-believer) ridicule him; you "just don't get it."
They want the government to pass special laws that favor their religion.
"If you really seek him ... seek Goofy with all your heart ... he will reveal himself to you. Seek him while he may be found!"
They sing, "Goofy ... Goofy ... Gooooooooo-fy ... there's just something ... about ... that name ..."
After a while, you might become irritated about grown-ups believing in such bullshit.
